Before you panic about breaking your dental crown, stop, take a deep breath, and relax. Many people break their crowns each day, and it’s not a big deal. The only time you need to worry is when you’ve broken your tooth along with the crown. So, to help you improve the situation, our Jeffrey Lopes DMD team recommends that you stay calm and do the following things:
Call your dentist
The first thing you need to do is call our office and schedule an appointment. Your dentist is the only one who can completely fix the problem. Please remember to bring the crown into the office with you when you come in for your appointment, no matter how damaged it is.
Put the crown back in place
Try to put the crown back over your tooth. To keep it in place, you can put a small piece of sugarless gum in the center of the crown or over-the-counter dental cement. If you can’t seem to get it to stay, keep the crown in a safe place where you won’t lose or break it.
Take over-the-counter pain medications
If you are in pain, feel free to take an over-the-counter pain medication until you meet with the dentist. We never want you to feel uncomfortable, so please take the medication as needed.
